In this week’s version of originally, actor Robert Pattinson lets one loose in his newest interview, with Details magazine.
Though I am not exactly sure who to blame in this crime: the pusher or the junkie. Here is the snippet in question (Courtesy Details):
Rob, did you know that every time you say actor or acting you lower your voice to a whisper?
He’s genuinely startled. “I do?” Yes, so quietly it’s like you’re saying Negro.
He laughs, lightens up. “What if we were ‘acting‘ like ‘Negroes‘? Then we’d be fucked—we couldn’t hear anything. . . .”
Or since the very next sentence tells us that Pattinson was on his fourth beer at this juncture, can we just say…
Now, are Black people loud?

…as a m*ther*cker.
So Pattinson might be onto something?
I didn’t really think he was useful for much more than the Twilight series, which I too, am guilty of being a fan. I don’t think I care to see him too much outside of being Edward Cullen.
But something about the comment screams “this is not right”. Given, the interviewer Jenny Lumet is Black,
(Kinda)
(Therefore making the “Negro” comment okay?) I still don’t really get where this is going. Do I understand the reference to whispering socially unacceptable words & phrases? Yes I do. However, that’s just the point. There is a plethora. Why Pattinson had to choose Negro is beyond me.
Lest we forget this is the same interview where only a few lines later Robert proclaims he is ”allergic to vagina”. Wanna see that excerpt too?
“I really hate vaginas. I’m allergic to vagina. But I can’t say I had no idea, because it was a 12-hour shoot, so you kind of get the picture that these women are going to stay naked after, like, five or six hours. But I wasn’t exactly prepared. I had no idea what to say to these girls. Thank God I was hungover.”
Really?
I’m not saying, but I’m just saying.
All in all, I don’t think the comment was racist, nor do I think he is. Just misguided is all. The amount of disrespect hurled at the Black community never ceases to amaze me. From any direction.
Like I said, Negro is just one step off of N*gger.
I'm fantastic. Cum Laude Graduate of Northeastern (Not Northwestern) University. Bring it on. My name is Stephanie Officer, the mastermind behind this very wesite before you.
He is not racist and wasn’t the term ‘negro’ an okay term back like 50 yrs ago or possibly even less. He was, however, disrespectful to insinuate that all black people are loud. I’m black and at this point, I’m not offended by the word ‘nigger’. And in reality, the 30 and below crowd are not as sensitive to term especially when ‘nigga’ is used. I belive it is a generational thing. In addition, niggers do exist. As Chris Rock said ‘there is a difference between Black ppl and niggas and niggas have got to go.’ I believe this wholeheartedly.
Well, I don’t have much use for Sir Pattinson INCLUDING “Twilight” (Sparkly vampires, really? Only a Mormon could come up with that crap….wait, is that “religist”? Whole new can of worms), but in his defense, according to the snippet you posted, Pattinson didn’t choose “Negro”, the interviewer, who is black, did. His further response was ill-thought, perhaps, but what was her motivation for throwing it out there in the first place? Was she hoping for her own John Mayer-ish sound bite to get her name out there, or was that just her attempt to be funny with a drunk It-boy of the moment? And really, WAS he that off? I know I’ve been in situations where I have just wanted to smack someone upside the head and say “Quiet- there’s white folks watching! Stop acting like a stereotype!”. Hell, I’ve wanted to do it when ther AREN”T white folk around. Don’t even get me started on the grills and the rims and the pants so low they make you shuffle like you’re on a damn chain gang……ok, whoa, what were we talking about? Oh yeah, the dude who looks like a heroin addict. And is allergic to vaginas. Yeah.
Dude’s got bigger issues than how loud we Negroes are. Just sayin’.
Hilarious posting. Love it! Robert Pattinson is weird; he seems uncomfortable in his own skin. I’m not a Twilight fan. He shouldn’t have said what he said, but from the Details excerpt, it seems that it was the interviewer who first brought up the term “Negro”. (It’s an offensive term; like referring to an Asian person as “Oriental”).
And, ohhhh, I think it’s funny you said the interviewer Jenny Lumet is Black (Kinda). Ohhhhhh…..
Thank you! I know. Negro is definitely taking us back to Jim Crow, which apparently ppl r really fond of remembering nowadays. Robert Pattinson also seems like someone ppl wouldn’t like very much had he not been a movie star. Not in that “mean-so-i-don’t-like-u” kind of way, but in that “you’re-awkward-so-I-don’t wanna-sit-next-to-you-at lunch” type of deal
……HA!

This, on the other hand, is racist as hell :

This frat needs a serious disbanding, followed by a midnight beatdown from the Crips.
Satiricaly speaking, of course, for Palin’s sake!
